Honda may be calling it a prototype, but the new Civic Si Coupe looks more than road-ready here at the LA Auto Show. Presented in a Rallye Red Pearl finish, the new Civic Si promises to be the fastest and most powerful version in the sporty trim’s storied history.

The Civic Si will come equipped with a more powerful, high torque version of the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine found in the regular Civic. Final performance numbers weren’t announced but we did learn that a short-throw six-speed manual transmission would be onboard.

A new active damper system along with active steering and a limited slip differential should please performance enthusiasts, while the exterior is outfitted with enlarged air intakes, front and rear splitters, and a rear wing spoiler.

Inside, red-stitched sport seats with Si logos underscore the exclusive look throughout that includes red-stitched doors, steering wheel and shifter. Meanwhile, the center-positioned tachometer and aluminum sport pedals are reminders of its true mission (as if there were any doubts).

Expect the Honda Civic Si Coupe and Sedan in showrooms early to mid 2017.
